Description
When first found I thought this was a late 1800's hunting pouch / possibles bag. After careful and time consuming cleaning to remove more than a 100 yrs. of barn funk I discovered that this was a British WWI officers satchel with a name stamped on the sewn flap attachment ( GEOFREY MURRAY SMITH ). Research indicated that Smith was a 2nd lieutenant in the Royal Fusiliers and that he was killed in action at Vermelles France Sept. 29 1915 . He is interned in the British Army Loos Memorial in the Pas De Calais, France. He was 19 years of age. Will list more details shortly.
