Exceptionally rare and original, 1880's Driver Figure for the Oversized, Cast Iron, “Ideal Fire Department” Horse Drawn Fire Engines – Pumpers and Ladder Wagons manufactured by the Ideal Manufacturing Company of Detroit, Michigan.Offered here is an original front or rear Fireman Driver (the same figure was used for both drivers) from the 32”+ Ideal Fire Department Ladder Truck and the 20” and 24” Ideal Horse Drawn Fire Pumper. The Driver measures approx. 3” tall from the top of his head to his sear and has a square peg. Original square peg, large size firemen for these massive cast iron toys are nearly impossible to find – if you need one here is a very rare chance to get one.
This very rare and original, large size cast iron ideal Fireman Driver Figure is in very good condition. There are no breaks, chips, cracks, damage or repairs of any kind. The surface paint is worn but 100% original and the Driver has never been repainted, restored or touched up. Please see the scans below for a good indication of the form of this large Fireman and the condition of his surface paint.
