LARGE 1880s CAST IRON HORSE DRAWN FIRE PATROL WAGON By IVES 20 INCHES LONG

Description

Very Rare and original, Large Size, Cast Iron, 2 Horse Phoenix Fire Patrol Wagon manufactured by the Ives, Blakeslee Manufacturing Company of Bridgeport, Connecticut. This early and quite massive Cast Iron Fire Patrol Wagon measures 20” long overall by 7 1/2" tall (to the top of the head of the original driver) and 4 1/2" wide. The elegant and very large (9" long) Collected Horses are attached by stiff wire to the front wheel and as the Toy is rolled across the floor they move in a cantering motion. The word “Phoenix” is cast onto the top surface of the tongue of the whiffletree.
The Patrol Wagon is complete and retains its original driver and all six of the original, seated fireman passengers. The words “Fire Patrol” are cast into each side of the Wagon and the implement box at the rear retains its original hinged lid. The body of the wagon section has had a very high quality, professional surface restoration as has the surface of the black horse. It appears that the driver and firemen have also had a surface restoration.
This very rare and very beautiful, Ives Cast Iron Fire Patrol Wagon displays beautifully in excellent condition. There are no crack, breaks, chips or physical damage of any kind to the cast iron. The Patrol Wagon is complete retaining its original separately cast driver and six rear seated firemen and original hinged lid to the equipment box step at the rear. As stated above the body of the Wagon has had some outstanding, professional paint restoration as has the black horse and likely the figures. Overall this rare and wonderful Ives Horse Drawn Fire Patrol Wagon displays beautifully and is a very impressive American Cast Iron Toy.
