Rare and original, ca1900 Matched Set of Three Cast Iron, Larger Size Sprinting Horses and Front End / Hitch for Large, Horse Drawn Fire Engines – Patrol Wagons, Pumpers, Hose Reels and Ladder Wagons - manufactured by the Hubley Manufacturing Co.
Offered here are three, original matching Sprinting Horses (two black and one brown) that would have pulled larger size Hubley Horse Drawn Fire Wagons. Each Horse measures 6 3/4” from front hooves to rear hooves and all three are in very good condition with no damage or repairs of any kind. The Horses come with the original Hubley front end including the original shafts, whiffletree, bell hitch, wheels and even the original bell and chains. Original, matched sets of larger size horses for these cast iron toys are nearly impossible to find – finding an entire front end with no damage is even harder - if you need one (or three) here is a very rare chance to get them.
These very rare and original, larger size cast iron Horses and the original front end elements are all in very good condition. There are no breaks, chips, cracks, damage or repairs of any kind. The front end is near complete lacking only one of the four small wheels under the horses. The surface paint is 100% original and neither the Horses nor the hitch have never been repainted, restored or touched up. The surface paint on the horses are quite well preserved while the paint on the hitch elements is worn. Please see the scans below for a good indication of the form of this Hubley front end and the condition of the surface paint.
