1920s CAST IRON FIRE ENGINE / FIRE PATROL WAGON By KENTON TOYS - RESTORED

Rare and original, 1920's Cast Iron, Fire Engine / Fire Patrol Wagon manufactured by the Kenton Hardware Co. This early 20th century, Cast Iron Fire Patrol Wagon measures approx. 9” long overall by 3 1/4” tall (to the top of the rail of the bed) by 3” wide. There is text cast on the underside of the Patrol Wagon that reads “KentonToys / Kenton Ohio”.
The Fire Patrol Wagon has been restored but lacks its' separately cast driver and rear firemen. The right half of the rear step is damaged and lacking.
Founded in 1890 the Kenton Lock Manufacturing Co. began producing toys in 1894 with a line of horse-drawn fire equipment, banks, and toy stoves. Renamed Kenton Hardware in 1900, the company became part of mammoth the National Novelty Corp. merger in 1903 and continued its toy line under the name Wing Mfg. Co. Involved in several unsuccessful takeovers, Kenton eventually emerged as a separate unit, the Kenton Hardware Co., and again produced toys successfully from 1920-1935.
As stated above, the surface of the Patrol Wagon has been professionally restored and the Patrol Wagon lacks its separately cast driver and all three seated firemen. The right hand side of the rear step is damaged and lacking. Please see the numerous scans below for a good indication of the form and condition of this damaged but very attractive, Kenton Fire Patrol Wagon.
A very rare and original, 1920’s Kenton Toys Cast Iron Fire Patrol Wagon / Fire Engine and with all its issues, still a nice addition to any Collection!!!
